Chapter 204 : The holy city of Gaelahesta
“I hear something strange.” Misha said.
A faint, high, unpleasant sound was beginning to echo in my ears.
Before me, I saw a pale, white light.
“It’s a dragon cry, a special magic sound wave that dragons emit from their throats. That cry creates a special magic field called a Dragon Domain. Within that domain, all magic power is concealed, and the power of Magic Eyes is reduced. This is how dragons hide their nests.” (Anos)
However, once you got this close, you could hear the dragon’s cry, revealing their own presence.
It only served to hide their nests from the surface, after all.
“Does this mean that the dragon’s nest is nearby?” Sasha asked.
“So it seems.” (Anos)
As soon as I replied, the dragon, which had been digging to lead the way, sped up.
Then it spread its wings wide. There was no more need for it to dig any deeper. We’d reached an underground cavern.
I tried to focus my Magic Eyes, but the dragon cry prevented me from seeing any further.
“I don’t know what’s down there.” Misha said as she looked around with her Magic Eyes as well.
“We have no choice but to go after that dragon.” (Anos)
The dragon fixed its wings in position, then picked up more speed as it glided down.
“Hey…! It’s going too fast…!” (Sasha)
“…Nh…” (Misha)
Unable to keep up with the dragon’s flight speed, the two of them gradually fall behind.
When I cast <Growth Kurst> and grew back into my 16-year-old self, I stretched out my hands.
“Grab on.” (Anos)
Sasha and Misha held my hands.
“Hang on tight. We’re going to rush.” (Anos)
I channeled my magic power, and increased the speed of <Flight Fless>.
The dragon, which was so far ahead, came more and more into view.
Then it flapped its wings as though to scatter particles of magic power.
It slowed down the fall of its huge body, and eventually came to a halt.
Just as we caught up with the dragon, our field of vision opened up at once.
The wall of earth that had blocked our surroundings was entirely gone.
“What… is this…?” (Sasha)
Sasha looked down in surprise.
Far below us was a green landscape. There were also rivers, mountains, swamps, wastelands and fertile lands.
It was different from the surface, and somewhat alien.
There was no blue sky, and anything above was seemingly closed off by solid ground.
But below, there was a vast, inhabitable world that looked not much different from the surface.
“Look.” (Misha)
Misha pointed at something.
It was a city.
Various buildings were standing in a large circle. At the center of them all was a huge castle. It was old, majestic, and full of magic power.
I could immediately tell that this castle was a three-dimensional magic circle, just like Delsgade.
“…I can’t believe a place like this, with a city and everything, was on the other side of the ground…” Sasha muttered.
This had to be the Underground World Arcana was talking about.
Two thousand years ago, I had searched for dragon nests countless times.
But no matter how much I dug, never on those occasions had I ever come across a place like this.
A quick look around told me that the area was at least as large as Azesion and Dilhade combined.
Even if the Dragon Domain was impervious to Magic Eyes, if it had existed since the Mythical Age, there was no way I couldn’t have found it.
It was inconceivable that a world of this size could’ve been formed naturally, even in the span of two thousand years.
Unless it was by the order of a god, that is.
“GROOAAAAAHHH…!” the dragon cried.
When I looked at it, the green dragon was flapping its wings and hovering in front of a hole in the ceiling.
A pale, white light leaked from it, illuminating the depths of the earth.
This was probably a dragon nest. The cries of the dragons resonated with each other, bringing a dazzling light to this world.
And this wasn’t the only one.
White light was leaking from every nest on the ceiling.
“Hmm. You may take your leave now.” (Anos)
I averted my gaze from the dragon and turned away.
Then, the beast realized that I had lost all hostility toward it, and returned to the hole in the ceiling – the dragon’s nest.
“Want to check things out?” Misha asked, tilting her head as she looked at me.
“Let’s hope they don’t turn us away at the entrance.” (Anos)
We slowly descended toward the city, which appeared to be at the bottom.
Gradually, I could see it clearly, even without using my Magic Eyes.
People were moving about. At first glance, the city was about the same size as Midhaze. However, the number of people living there seemed to be small.
They were dressed in exotic attires, similar to what Arcana was wearing.
Seeing that they paid little attention to us, it seemed that visitors from above weren’t particularly unusual here.
