Chapter 20 [Tet’s new equipment. Then, on to the next place.] Part 1
Having achieved our objective in the town of Daryl, we’re preparing to leave the town and head towards the next location.
“The next stagecoach is three days later. Let’s get ready before that.”
“Okaayy. Having said that though, what are we getting ready?”
Tet’s thinking that it’s fine if we create the things we want with my [Creation Magic] each time its needed.
Certainly, it might be fine with things like groceries and daily necessities.
“Let’s buy enough food so we don’t get suspected.”
“Ehh, preserved foods aren’t tasty~.”
“Then we won’t be getting any of Tet’s favorite dried fruit~.”
“Ahh, Majo-sama, let’s go shopping! I’ll do my best!”
When I mentioned sweet things, Tet immediately changed her stance and let a smile slip out, then we went shopping.
Certainly, just like Tet said, it’d be fine if we created some with Creation Magic, but there’s a risk of being suspected if we always have fresh food even though we don’t buy anything.
Also, as for the things I wanted—-
“Let’s go by some books and Tet’s new sword.”
“Books and sword?”
When I fought the ogres, I realized that I was using [Origin Magic] with my intuition.
As a result of that, I could only deal small damage with magic like wind cutter against monsters with magic resistance.
In the battle against the stone golem, there was a large space, so I could use high-firepower fire magic, but that was basically bulldozing with my mana and it was not user-friendly.
I wanted to learn magic that didn’t cause damage to the surroundings and that didn’t really damage the monster’s raw materials.
“The <<Hardening Shot>> that used Magic Crystals could certainly pass for a C-rank monster, but I need to acquire a method where I can defeat them even without using Magic Crystals.”
“Is that so~?”
Also, that’s physical magic. Physics isn’t effective towards spirit bodies and that sort, so it’s meaningless.
“Also, didn’t you break your sword Tet? That’s why, I think it’s better for a blacksmith master to properly make a sword than for me to create a blunt one.”
As for Tet who didn’t fuss over her sword in particular, she wasn’t really interested.
However, I found out something by concentrating my mana to my eyes. Within swordsmen, there were people that used weapons that had a good rate of mana conduction.
For example, metal weapons which used mithril or magic steel.
A weapon’s strength and weight have a direct effect on a battle, but it’s hard for my body strengthening magic to flow through things other than my own body.
If she put on a body strengthening of 100 mana on her body, when she puts the same magic on a normal sword, the mana would decay to 10.
In the case of the sword being made out of mithril or magic steel, it’d be clad in around 50~60 mana, and increase the sharpness and strength of the weapon.
If you trained in body strengthening yourself, the ratio of mana that you could clad your sword in would increase.
However, rather than doing that, it’d be better to use a weapon that conducts mana well and obtain high-offensive power.
“That’s why, I thought we should buy a weapon made of magic steel for Tet.”
“Hmm. I don’t really get it, but I’m happy with whatever Majo-sama gives me!”
“If that’s the case, let’s go to a weapon store.”
Tet and I stopped by a weapon store that many adventurers used that we heard at the guild.
We withdrew our money from our guild card before going to the store.
“Hello. Can I have a bit of your time?”
“Huh? Oh, just some girls, if you’re just looking around then go home. We’re in the middle of a job.”
“Elder brother, don’t say that. Welcome, were you searching for something?”
It seems like the dwarf brothers–the moody craftsman older brother and gentle smiling younger brother–managed this weapon store according to the stories I’ve heard.
“Our budget is in the range of three large gold coins. Could we have you make this person a weapon and armor?”
“Please do so!”
Comparing me, who wasn’t sociable, and Tet, who reversely was sociable, he listened to our armor’s budget and had a troubled face.
“Hmph. There aren’t any toys for brats here.”
“He’s right. Even if you’re loaded with money, there aren’t any weapons that—-wha, eh!?”
Tet and I showed our respective guild cards, displaying that we’re D-rank adventurers.
“D-rank. Chise and Tet on top of that……”
“Won’t you sell some to us? Tet can fight as she is now, but nonetheless, I’d like to prepare a weapon to avoid problems.”
Even if she had the ability to beat down an ogre, in the case we went to a town where we don’t know anyone, there should be less trouble if we’re equipped with weapons than plain clothes.
“For the time being, we’d like a magic steel or mithril sword and leather armor that Tet can move easily in.”
“Wait a minute. If you’re the adventurer Tet, show me the sword you’ve been using!”
The elder brother of the weapon store, who didn’t treat us seriously until just now, suddenly changed his attitude.
Even so, Tet didn’t care and while smiling, took out the broken sword from the magic bag handed over to Tet.
“This is the one that Majo-sama gave me! It broke, but it’s something important, so I can’t hand it over!”
“Then, did Jou-chan fight against ogres?” 1 “It broke half way, so I knocked it out.”
Having heard that, the older brother had his hand on his chin while the younger brother had a cramped smile.
“A-Ahaha…… ogre leather that was just defeated just came to my place. I knew how they were defeated, but to think it was defeated like that……”
I shot a super-hardened Magic Crystal at high speeds and destroyed its head, but Tet beat it to death in hand-to-hand combat.
There weren’t many damages on the leather, but the meat, bones and internal organs under were all mushed up it seems.
Well, there is almost no way to use ogre meat and internal organs, and the bones were crushed into fine powder and mixed with metal to make an alloy.
“Hmm. It doesn’t look decorated. It’s like a blacksmith model sword. It’s not good, nor is it bad. However, the maintenance is bad. The clotted blood was scraped off with magic, but it hasn’t been sharpened nor repaired. But, magic does flow through.”
The older brother stared at us as he evaluated the sword that I created with Creation Magic.
Then, after reviewing the sword, he carried out several swords from the inside the workshop.
“Jou-chan. Try holding this sword and channeling your mana.”
According to the older brother’s instructions, Tet channeled mana through the sword.
While doing so, I channeled mana to my eyes and looked at the weapon’s mana transmission ratio. From the right, in order were iron, magic steel and mithril weapons.
Then, I noticed that the weapon store siblings were also concentrating mana to their eyes like me.
“Oh, did Jou-chan notice? The fact that we were concentrating mana to our eyes.”
“Yes. Did the two of you learn body strengthening?”
“No, ever since we were born, we were devoted to making tools. It’s just—-”
As a result a lot of jobs where they made things and loaded magic into them, especially objects filled with magic, it seems like it’s inevitable that craftsman specialize at observing mana.
“Adventurers subconsciously use their body’s mana, on the other hand, we learned a skill that deals with magic as a mystery. The difference between a town’s blacksmith and hardware store is that a blacksmith handles magic.”
“I see, thanks for teaching me.”
In addition, it seems to be easier to see small pieces of work by concentrating magic to the eyes, and to prevent the eyes from being damaged by the light of the smithing fire.
