Clash!
The swords crossed, shields smashed against flesh, and blood stained the ground.
A golden-armored angel smashed his shield against the skull of a demon before unsheathing his sword and slashing it down on the collarbone of another demon. However, as soon as he killed the demon, another demon appeared and smashed his hideous-looking mace at the angel's head—causing the head to shatter.
It didn't take even ten seconds for hundreds of demons and angels to die.
''Protect the gate! Do not let anyone enter!'' Zadkiel shouted while swinging his sword. With one slash, he separated the heads of a dozen demons. He donned a gold-winged helmet, which fit nicely with his handsome face. He looked like a god of war.
''Yes, sir!'' The fellow Angels shouted repeatedly and stood their ground with shields held in front of them.
''Shieldmen!'' An Angel shouted, waking New-Gen Humans from their stupor. With mechanical movement, as though they were nervous, New-Gen Humans stepped forward and pushed their spears through the gaps of shields and impaled nearby demons.
They were taught spearmanship for long time ago. They didn't know for what reason, but they were all taught for one year when they turned adult about spearmanship and different fighting skills. They never came to use them in adulthood. Thus, they thought it was useless. However, it seemed like they were taught for this day.
They could only believe themselves to be quite lucky that they now knew how to defend themselves.
Inhumans were still in a much better situation. They had to undergo a coming of age ceremony, where they had to pass several tests. They were difficult and mostly fighting-related.
''God damn it!'' Demon who got hit by the spear screamed in annoyance. He grabbed the blade, crushed it with his bare hands, and glared at the person who stabbed him. The New-Gen Human paled and hid behind the shieldmen.
''Come out, coward!'' Demon screamed and shockingly jumped over the shieldwall with extremely good athleticism.
''Stop him!'' Zadkiel shouted while crossing swords with another demon. He couldn't be everywhere all at once. Thus, he had to trust his subordinates.
''Haaaa!'' The Demon shouted and grabbed the head of a New-Gen Human before crushing it like a watermelon. The scene shocked the others, and they paled in fright. But then, almost immediately, an angel appeared and slashed the demon's head cleanly off his shoulders.
The demon's lifeless head flew across the air before landing on the side of the wall and shattering like a balloon.
However, it didn't matter that the demon was now dead. The New-Gen Humans were still terrified of attracting the anger of the demons.
''I-I can't do this...'' A young man around 18 years old said with trembling hands. The spear was vibrating like it had a life of its own. He was a young architecture student from a wealthy family. He was thought to be the successor of his father and would become a great architect.
However, then an evacuation order came while he was still studying in school, and he was evacuated out of World of White along with his classmates. He didn't know where his family ended or whether they were safe.
He was sent to White Paradise almost immediately and was put in one of the fighting battalions. He didn't want to be here and would rather be a deserter. However, hearing Arthur's speech changed his mind...
He spoke so well that it made everyone who had deserting thoughts to stay silent and subdue to their fates. Arthur talked about what could happen to their families if they left. Even one person could change the course of the war and change the lives of billions of people. If they could be that person, even if there was less than 0.0001% chance, wouldn't they do it?
None of them thought it was possible to be that person, but they still wanted to be the main protagonist and be the reason their families could live to see another day.
Slowly, his hand stopped trembling and his frightened eyes started slowly becoming calmer. Today was perhaps the day he would die. After all, ending in the first group was a dead sentence.
''Get out of my way!'' Then, a demon burst through the shieldwall with only his physical strength!
He had dragon-like scales all over his body. As the swords slashed across his body, they couldn't penetrate his armor-like skin. The spears broke in half as they struck the skin, and none of the angels were powerful enough to stop the rampaging demon.
The demon grabbed the heads of two angels and crushed them effortlessly. The blood stained his hands, and before rushing forward, he licked the blood off his hands and grinned hideously. Everyone turned pale, like they had seen a monster in flesh. No one had any intention of fighting against him!
However, the youth, who thought he wanted to become an architect, grabbed the spear tightly and started running forward. As he ran past the frightened New-Gen Humans, they looked at him with shocked expressions. They all thought he had gone mad and was going to lose his life foolishly.
''Die, you bastard!'' He shouted and kicked the ground as he suddenly launched himself forward. The spear struck the spot between two chests. It was also the place where dragon skin was at its weakest. It only had a very thin layer of it.
The demon couldn't react as the spear suddenly impaled through him. His eyes widened in shock and the shouting of a mad-looking youth entered his ears. He looked down and saw a weak-looking human holding a spear—about to kill him!
''Y-Y-You, cough!'' The demon coughed out blood. ''B-Bastard!''
The demon grabbed the youth by the head. His hand was as big as his head!
The fellow New-Gen Humans covered their ears in fright. They were afraid to again hear the disgusting ''crack'' sound of the skull getting shattered. They would already get nightmares, but they didn't want to hear or see a young man like him also suffering the same fate!
Spurt... then, out of nowhere, a sword shredded through the air and cleanly cut off the demon's arm. The arm that was holding the young man.
The young man fell on his butt, and now everyone could see his pale face and the tears that were staining his face. He was obviously utterly terrified and was sure that he would die. However, he still risked his life without expecting anything to happen.
This was the spark the army needed.
