3 weeks later.
The sky above Snowstar was beautiful ice blue. It was a cloudless day, and the temperature had decreased to -30 Celcius. It was freezing cold, but for residents of Snowstar, it was an ordinary winter day.
The cars continued roaming on the roads while pedestrians stopped to look at nearby shop windows. They saw a TV screen showing News that had been broadcasted hundreds of times past three weeks.
The famous incident that happened three weeks ago was all over the News. The video updated on the VideoKing website had over 30 million views and still rapidly climbing.
As the sirens reverberated throughout Snowstar, the Hospital was eerily quiet. The hallways were relatively empty, with all nurses and doctors looking exhausted. It felt like they were held at gunpoint, and a single mistake would cost them their life.
At the best hospital suite, a man with beautiful white hair and a sickly-looking face was lying on a hospital bed. Wires were stuck on his skin, and the machines continued beeping while showing his life signals.
Then, his eyelids fluttered before opening fully. His gray eyes saw the unfamiliar white ceiling and felt the slight discomfort of the wires.
"Ugh…" As he tried to move his left hand, he grimaced in pain. He then saw the bandages around his left shoulder. Then he remembered about getting shot.
"I am in… hospital?" Isaac blinked and turned to look out of the window. However, it was blocked by the dozen flower vases. The tiny desk could barely hold them all.
Then, he saw the mechanical clock that kept ticking clockwise. It also showed the current date.
It was the 23rd of December.
"W-What… It has been three weeks?" Isaac felt his heart pounding harder and faster.
Creak!
The suite's door opened, and a beautiful nurse came with hair tied in a ponytail and a clipboard in her right hand. She was curiously checking the notes when she heard the unnatural beeping sound. It came from a machine connected to the patient's heartbeat.
She lifted her head and saw pair of beautiful gray eyes gazing at her. Her eyes widened, and she accidentally dropped the clipboard.
Clang!
After the clipboard fell to the ground, the nurse whirled around and hurried out of the suite. Her footsteps grew distant as she seemed to be running as fast as she could.
"Eh?" Isaac waited patiently, and soon several footsteps echoed in the distance. Soon, five exhausted-looking doctors arrived with tired smiles. They seemed truly happy to see the white-haired man awake.
"You are awake. This is great!"
"I guess?" Isaac frowned at their unnatural reaction.
Then, the door opened again, and a familiar face popped up. Doctor Richard came with a calm smile. He walked past the tired doctors and took a quick glance at the machines.
Then, turned back to Isaac and asked, smiling, "How are you doing?"
"Good, memories slightly foggy," Isaac replied.
"Yeah…" Richard wryly smiled and said, "It has been quite hectic three weeks. The doctors must be glad that they can finally take a proper night of rest."
"What happened?" Isaac asked curiously.
"You will learn about it later. Let me check the condition of your wounds first." Richard then checked the gun wound and several bruises around the abdomen.
Then, he wrote on the paper and said,
"The wound looks much better already, and there are cops that want to talk to you, but before that, let me wake up your parents."
"Wake up?" Isaac saw Richard's lips twitching as he sighed in frustration.
"Yeah… They have stayed in the hospital ever since the incident. That's why we have been balancing on a knife's edge." Richard wryly smiled and left the suite.
Soon afterward, two individuals stormed inside the room and instantly trapped Isaac in a hug. Isaac could feel his mother's tears staining his hospital gown.
"Are you alright?!" Isabella wiped her tears from her very red eyes. There were large eyebags underneath her eyes like she hadn't slept fell for ages. She also seemed to have lost weight, with her arms looking much skinnier.
Maxwell wasn't any different. He doesn't look like he had showered past three weeks nor eaten much. His exhausted face still had a look of relief.
"I am fine…" Isaac slowly sat up even though his parents tried to oppose it. However, he ignored the rising pain in his shoulder and leaned against the back wall.
After Isabella and Maxwell were done inquiring about the injuries, their faces turned as solemn.
"I can't believe it was Oliver…" Isabella said with a hateful glance, her red eyes turning a shade redder.
Maxwell's face was ice-cold, "Yeah…"
Isaac's face turned serious after that name was mentioned, "What about Oliver? Where is he now?"
"In police custody alongside his useless friends," Maxwell said with a tinge of hate. He was forbidden from going to the police station. It was like they were afraid of what he might do.
For a good reason too. Maxwell couldn't have cared less what happened to him as his trigger finger itched.
"Oh." Isaac nodded.
"They most likely won't be released." Isabella said with a tiny smirk, "At first, they kept them there for protection, but Oliver basically confessed to a murder attempt, and he was in possession of an illegal firearm…"
"Right, where did he even get one?" That was the question Isaac was asking himself. There weren't weapons selling in Snowstar, thus making the city relatively safe.
"No one knows." Maxwell replied, "I have hired a few detectives, and they will be able to find out."
Isaac nodded.
Creak…
Then, the hospital door again opened, and two elderly folks stepped inside.
Isaac's eyes shook as he saw them. They were Malcolm and Madison!
Maxwell and Isabella turned to look at them. They nodded and sat on a nearby chair as Isaac's grandparents smiled slightly and asked questions from him.
They heard about the incident from News. That incident was big enough to get broadcasted on Brightstar. Without further ado, they boarded their private plane and flew straight toward Snowstar.
They met with Isabella and Maxwell in the hospital. The initial meeting was quite awkward, and the atmosphere between them was was still quite unnatural.
