Chapter 8: Her duty

“Let’s move on and go to the dormitories,” said Hugan towards the small crowd in an exasperated tone. The group of young ladies immediately changed their attitude and dispersed from the crowd. Their current priority now was to go back to their rooms and get ready for the party. Razé was a bit surprised at the situation.

As expected of aristocratic school …

In case anyone was wondering, Prince Ruben and Claude did not fall prey to the Grim Reaper’s son.

“Lady Carna, if you are free next Saturday why don’t you come with us to go to the shopping district? If you come, I’m sure Prince Ruben would come too.” Adis suddenly walked out of the crowd and stood next to Carna causing her to frown.

Carna: “I have prior engagement. Besides, there is no guarantee that Prince Ruben would join if I go.”

Adis: “Really? That’s a shame. But Lady Carna, isn’t this a precious chance for you to go out on a date with your fiancé?”

Carna: “D-Date?!”

Adis chuckled at the astonishment on her face. And judging from Folia’s huge round eyes, it seemed that she didn’t know about Lady Carna and Prince Ruben’s engagement.

Looking at her expression, it seemed Carna-sama do have feelings towards Prince Ruben, thought Razé as she smiled in glee. She had found out something good. Carna, who was embarrassed with bright red ears looked very cute.

Razé wished for the kind-hearted Carna, who had befriended her even though they had different status, to get along well with her love interest, even if their engagement was made in consideration of their status.

Razé: “Carna-sama, there will be many opportunities in the future. Why don’t we change our appointment to another day? What do you think, Folia?”

Folia: “Un, I agree.”

Carna, who was covering her cheeks with her hands, looked at Folia and then averted her eyes away. Her shy maiden-in-love look suddenly disappeared, as she said with a sad face, “… No, it’s fine. Compared with me, there is someone more suitable for him.”

“What!” Razé was shocked and her face turned grim.

Although they got engage since they were young, Carna definitely had feelings towards Prince Ruben. Her words just now were too shocking.

What’s going on? Razé looked at Adis and saw his widened eyes. He didn’t seem to know anything either.

“Please forget about what I said earlier. It’s nothing. Prince Ruben did nothing wrong. It was me who was lacking-” said Carna with an awkward smile. It was obvious that she didn’t want to talk about it anymore, so Razé didn’t say anything. They had only met for a few hours. It was not like they have a deep bond and could confide their worries with each other.

Razé: “Then, as per our original plan, you should come with us to the shopping district. I know a lot of shops, so I can guide you around.”

Carna: “Really? I rarely get to go to town-”

Razé: “Then you can look forward to it. I will make sure to prepare well.”

Carna: “I’m so excited.”

When they changed the topic to shopping, Carna started to smile again. Razé was relieved and continue to say, “Carna-sama, Forlia, do you like sweet things? ”

Carna: “Yes, I do like them.”

Forlia: “Me too!”

Razé: “That’s good. I like eating, especially sweet things. I hope they have pancake.”

Carna: “That sounds great.”

Chatting with cute girls, eating candies, these were one of her lists to do at school. Razé was very happy to be able to experience a normal student life that she dreamed of.

Adis: “This trio combination is quite unusual. When did you girls become so close? You are Folia-san whose specialty is healing magic, right? And you are the scholarship student …”

It seemed that everyone remembered Folia and her specialty healing magic.

“Granoli.” Razé said her name helplessly.

“Ah, sorry Granoli-san. My brain was jammed with name of the girls that I’m going to hang out with.” Adis came up with an annoying excuse.

Razé had an intuition that it would be difficult for the two of them to get along well. From the beginning, she had never wanted to get close to him because his face reminded her of His Excellency the Grim Reaper. And now, she had put him as No 1 on the ‘people to avoid’ list. Well, congratulations!

“Don’t worry. Thanks to you, I had the chance to befriend Carna-sama and made plan to go out together. I’m really grateful.” Razé tried to imitate the Grim Reaper’s smile, hitting back at Adis.

Even her fellow comrade in ‘Shadow’s Eye’ complimented her Grim Reaper’s smile and had told her that it looked similar. For a very brief moment, Adis’ expression changed. It was subtle and Razé paid no heed to it.

Carna: “Adis-sama, you haven’t changed at all. With this attitude, you are going to suffer when you find someone that you really like.”

“Thank you for your advice. I will keep that in mind.” Adis waved his hand and walked away towards Prince Ruben and Claude.

It was very difficult to figure out what he was thinking. The Prime Minister was Razé’s superior, so she could understand him a little bit. But The Prime Minister’s son was a total mystery.

“Ca- Carna-sama, are you engaged to Prince Ruben? I- I’m not familiar with this kind of topic …” Folia asked in an apologetic tone.

Carna was about to say something but then she closed her mouth and smiled to Folia. “It was long time ago …”

Razé saw her look and wondered how Carna felt towards Prince Ruben. What did she mean? She looks like she had feeling for him. Did Prince Ruben fall for someone else …?

There was something tugging in her heart. It was the feeling similar to when you were anxious trying to recall the thing you had forgotten. What was it? I think I have felt this before …

Whenever she had this feeling, it was usually when she overlooked something or when she was unable to recall things from her previous life. While being led to the dormitory, Razé kept thinking about it but couldn’t get a clear answer.

When this happened, normally she won’t be able to do anything about it. So Razé decided to let nature run it course and wait for the day she recalls the answer.

For now, I need to pay attention to the people around Prince Ruben. If things don’t go well, a royal scandal could bring down the country. Razé whispered in her heart and suddenly stopped moving.

Folia: “Razé-chan?”

Carna: “Razé-san, what’s wrong?”

The voices calling her name sounded so far away. Razé turned pale with her own thought. Oops! Isn’t this bad? If the prince making dark history while I’m around, then people are going to question what the hell I’ve been doing.

She realized the situation was not good. If something happened to Prince Ruben, then it would cause uproar throughout the country. When this unforeseen situation happened, then she needed to make a move.

I see. The Prime Minister was worried these things could happen, and that’s why he sent me here.

The phrase ‘building a healthy relationship’ crossed her mind. It seemed that she wouldn’t be able to comfortably enjoy her school life. In Centrior, other than Prince Ruben, there were many daughters and sons of important people with power that could steer the nation …

Damn it! The Prime Minister tricked me!

There was no such thing as a free lunch. Razé buried her head in her hands in exasperation.

Folia: “Razé-chan, are you alright?”

Carna: “Did you forget something?”

Razé: “No, it’s nothing. I’d just recall some troublesome matters.”

She pushed down her uneasy feeling to the bottom of her stomach and determined to enjoy her school life at all cost.
