(EP-207.2) Summer #5

207 – Cold Summer #5

“What should we do? It seems like there are many assassins. It’s just the two of us. Will we be okay?”

Since leveling up to a Rank 5 Archmage and becoming a Little Demon King, I had confidence in handling most assassins. But Mirna was a more experienced and skilled black mage than me.

However, dealing with assassins had many variables. If they boldly infiltrated the Draco Family mansion, it meant they were confident in their abilities.

It had been a long time since I faced a threat from assassins. I felt a dryness in my mouth and a tingling sensation down my spine like an electric current.

Someone was trying to kill us.

In this tense situation, I managed to maintain some semblance of composure, largely thanks to Mirna, who began to exude a sturdy presence like a small giant.

“Huhu, Sir Theo. Aren’t you underestimating the Draco Family too much? Just the two of us… Well, see for yourself.”

I don’t know what it was, but Mirna seemed quite confident. Then, she lifted a bell from the desk.

A bell with some kind of red ribbon that was fitting for a noble to use when summoning a servant. As Mirna shook it lightly, a clear sound, contrasting with the tense atmosphere, echoed through the mansion.

What was she trying to do?

Just then, a commotion erupted in the garden.

Shuffle.

There seemed to be the sound of something digging out the ground, followed by an eerie noise of death rising from the dirt. Then, white bones emerged, as they grated through the tomato field.

━Gaiaaaaa!

━Gieeee!

The beings with glowing blue eyes were none other than the undead. Seeing this sight of things that shouldn’t exist, I couldn’t help but be startled.

“Weren’t all of the Draco Family’s dead consecrated?”

“The dead of the Draco Family were indeed consecrated. However, they are not members of the Draco Family. And now, it seems that there will be about ten more.”

* * *

They were pros.

Individually nameless and devoid of personality. They would do anything just to accomplish their goals.

But even they were startled when something emerged from the ground.

The white bones of the filthy undead grasped their ankles. The skulls’ glowing blue eyes seething with hatred for the warmth of the living.

‘Wasn’t the dead of Draco Family already consecrated?’

Agent A looked at the malevolent remains. But, she had to admit that her thoughts were wrong.

These were not the Draco Family’s dead.

━Grrraaah, I, kill, must kill enemy-.

The rusty necklace hanging from the skeleton’s neck was engraved with a picture of a lion baring its fangs. There were also words written on it.

「Valdez P Lioness.」

‘It’s the corpse of the Lioness Family!’

Not only that, but each of the undead bore the insignias of families that had made a name for themselves in the continent, such as Ironhog and Midrakun.

It was then that Agent A recalled the notoriety of the Draco Family which had been circulating in the world.

Their antagonistic relationships with many families stemmed from wanting to use the corpses of their enemies as tools, turning them into eternal servants.

So was it a lie that all the deceased had been consecrated?

So the flora—like flowers and tomatoes— in the garden, which didn’t align with the family’s infamy, was to conceal the damned undead hidden beneath the surface…?

━Grrrreuk.

Pudeuk-.

“Ugh…!”

Then someone let out a small scream. A woman wearing a black mask was being dragged into the hands of the undead.

“He-help….”

The eyes visible through the black cloth were filled with terror, but the fact that they didn’t scream was commendable, even though it was already too late to help.

For a moment, a shiver ran down Agent A’s spine as she looked into the empty gaze of the undead. She gestured to her colleagues.

━Enter.

With this much commotion, it was highly likely that those inside the mansion had already noticed them. It would be best to swiftly enter and achieve their objective before the target could formulate a response.

Paseuseuk-.

Although they encountered some resistance, they soon stepped over the heads of the undead and moved quickly.

Thanks to that, they managed to reach the entrance of the mansion. Then they broke through the elaborate seals on the door and went inside.

As they opened the heavy front door, what appeared before them was the extremely quiet, solemn, and heavily laden atmosphere inside the mansion.

━Stay alert. We don’t know what might appear.

After beckoning lightly, Agent A stealthily entered. The target was likely to be on the third floor.

As she entered the narrow corridor leading to the stairs, she noticed a space filled with antiques like old armor, ceramics, and portraits. It felt more like an exhibition hall than a corridor.

━Don’t touch anything.

After a brief warning, she carefully extended her foot onto the red carpet. There was a faint gulp-swallowing sound.

Even for agents highly trained in suppressing emotions, it seemed that walking through the Draco Family’s mansion at night was terrifying.

Agent A was no exception. She felt as if there were eyes from every direction, and the portraits were smiling at her.

“Kkyaaaak-!”

Suddenly, a loud shriek came from behind her. It was probably Agent H’s voice. This idiot was making such a loud noise!

Feeling a hint of annoyance, Agent A turned around only to be met by an unbelievable, surreal sight.

A portrait depicting a man wearing a long wig was reaching his hand out, opening its large mouth and swallowing a person.

━It’s a mimic-!

“Save me, save, save me-! No, nooo-! Tongue, don’t lick-, kkyaaaak-!”

Only the butt and legs remained struggling outside, as her upper body was already swallowed. Agent H stopped moving for a moment.

But the loud scream seemed to have awoken many things.

Somewhere, armor clanked, chilling laughter echoed as if licking the cold floor, and piercing screams resounded.

━Geuaaak, aaaahg-! Aaaahg-!

She didn’t know what was making them scream like that, but it was certainly not doing them any favors.

━Aaaahg-!

“R-reatreat!”

Someone shouted. In the ensuing panic, they began to backtrack, stepping back one by one along the path they had come.

But no matter how they moved, the entrance of the mansion didn’t appear. There were only endless dark corridors and doors.

━Aaaaahg, Aaaaahgeuaaahg!

Thud, thud.

Meanwhile, the screams approaching them were getting closer and closer. Finally, when it appeared in front of them around the corner—.

“━━─!!!”

Agent A let out a scream for the first time since becoming a Walpurgis.
