Sensechapter 89: future plans of a general hospital (6)

A/N: Sorry for the delay. The holidays plus real life hit me hard. Then I wasn't feeling very well. As an apology, I'll upload all the chaps for this week together. I'm really sorry.

“Why are you here…….”

Dowook took the mug from the surprised Lim So Yool's hand and placed it on the tray.

“I declared someone fully recovered after so much work but I received word that they were trying to get themself admitted back to the hospital.”

“Oh.”

Lim So Yool looked back and forth between the paper Dowook passed her and the one she was writing on. Then her expression brightened.

“By any chance…….”

“Did I come to calculate with you?”

Nod, nod.

Energy returned to those exhausted eyes. Dowook shook his head.

“No.”

“Tsk.”

“I came to do it alone.”

“What?”

Dowook put his hand on top of the paper she was holding. Then he dragged everything in front of him.

“What are you doing?”

“Let me take your pulse for a moment. Your wrist please.”

Dowook put his fingers against Lim So Yool’s pulse. Then he touched her forehead with the back of his hand to check for a fever. Afterward, he shook his head.

"Being a doctor is a job with a lot of overwork. But compared to the director's job, it is nothing. What did they say about comparing two groups with different countermeasures? Parameters? Non parameters? These words were mixed together."

"McNemar test?”

"Correct."

Dowook stood up from his seat, held Lim So Yool's hand, and pulled her up. It was easy since she was so light. After leaving the room, they quickly passed by the parlor and arrived at the entrance. Dowook opened the door and pushed Lim So Yool outside.

Standing outside the door within an instant, Lim So Yool looked up at Dowook with a bewildered gaze.

"What are you doing?"

"McNemar says that if you continue to work, you will die of overwork.”

"That's not how the test works."

"The answer is the same. Will you be a mathematician who doesn't allow freedom in the process of solving problems?”

"That's…."

Dowook pointed to Room 2008 across the hallway.

"It's empty over there, so go to sleep. I already informed the ward nurse."

"If I don't want to?"

"As a temporary doctor, I should stop here and step down, but as a friend, I'll say one more thing."

"What?"

"I'll help you, so don't worry."

Lim So Yool's eyes became softer.

"If I close this door, it won't open for the next four hours. You can keep standing in the hallway or go to sleep over there. What do you choose?”

Lim So Yool, who was still looking at Dowook, held out the pen in her hand. Dowook took it and nodded as he said.

"Rest well."

The door closed.

Lim So Yool looked at the closed door of Room 2007 and turned around.

Suddenly, with a dazed expression, she touched her cheek. Obviously, there were many things that were worrying there, but she felt like she would be able to sleep sweetly if she laid on a bed.

How on earth should this be defined and calculated?

Dowook closed the door and turned his back. He paused his movements because all the people who were working hard inside stopped moving and were watching him.

A middle-aged man, who looked old, lifted his horn-rimmed glasses and asked Dowook.

"You're going to do it alone? By any chance… Can we rest too?”

"Uh…"

Secretary Ok said to a middle-aged man with a smile.

"The doctor came because of the director's health. Manager Choi, wouldn't it be better to focus on your original work and endure the aftermath?"

"Okay, I got it. Manager Moon. Close your mouth and focus."

"J- just now…. It's my first time seeing the director change her mind in two years."

Dowook sat at the table where Lim So Yool had been working to avoid the looks from the accounting adjustment team.

From the calculation he did a while ago to help Lim So Yool, he could continue with the work as long as he had Lim So Yool's sense.

Rather than calculating, it seemed that all the flow of funds that went to and from the hospital were investigated up to the last won, and simple labor was substituted into a specific formula. Therefore, even employees had to be called here.

[T/N: This shows how precise Lim So Yool was with her calculations since Korean won tends to be calculated by the hundreds. I guess a good comparison would be to say that she was calculating the financial reports down to the last cent.]

Of course, Lim So Yool's workload was unrivaled in terms of the amount of documents accumulated and the results.

Dowook took off his doctor's gown and hung it on a chair, holding the pen in his hand.

‘Then, shall we start the health promotion mission of the director's representative?’

Scribble一

How long had it been?

Dowook fumbled by the table and looked up when he saw that his mug was empty. As he stepped out to the parlor, he noticed that the manager named Choi Jae-woon was dozing off.

Carefully trying not to wake him up, he picked up the pot of coffee.

"It must have cooled down…"

Secretary Ok Sang-Ah approached him. Dowook shook his head.

"It's okay. I'm drinking it like barley tea."

"You must like coffee."

"Well…"

He did not say that it was because he only enjoyed the scent, not the taste.

While turning around with his mugin hand, Dowook made eye contact with Manager Choi, who opened his eyes in surprise at the sound of his snoring.

"You're working hard."

"Wait, sir."

Manager Choi lifted the paper in his hand and handed it to Dowook.

"This medical supplies business account you handed over earlier is by a borrowed name. By putting all cashable assets as damages instead of collecting them. I didn't understand while I was organizing it."

For a moment, Dowook couldn't breathe. He just did it because his hand told to, but he had no sense of the process.

"Manager, I'm sure they’ve already spent it all."

At Deputy manager Moon’s words, both Manager Choi and Dowook turned to look at him.

"I'm looking at the books of the goods store, and it's such a waste. This person really likes luxury goods. They’re gonna have to pay a lot.”

"Really?"

Manager Choi was surprised and looked at Dowook.

"Doctor, are you also the same type?”

"What do you mean by type?"

"The type to see what’s going on just by looking at the numbers. Somehow, the way of organizing the results is exactly like the director’s.”

It seemed better to answer the first question. Dowook quickly replied so he could leave.

"Anyway, your question has been resolved, right? Then, work hard."

As he quickly turned away, he heard the conversation of the staff from the parlor.

-Manager, are you that surprised?

-Look at it. He concluded it with just the basic ledger when we can confirm only by cross-verifying several books. This is an irrecoverable type of current fund.

-Oh my gosh. Really? That's totally Director Lim's style.

-I know. How can he be this good when he’s a doctor?

Dowook felt their gaze and had no choice but to respond with an awkward smile.

Lim So Yool, who was lying in bed in room 2008, opened her eyes.

She turned her head and looked at the wall clock, and it was 1 a.m.

She was only going to sleep for three hours, but slept for six hours. She heard a voice from beside her as she stood up in a hurry.

"You can sleep more."

Dowook was sitting at the table. He was working on something on a laptop.

"Why didn't you wake me up?"

"A doctor should not interfere with the most effective treatment for overwork."

"But the team is still…"

"Everyone left work. The secretary is supposed to come tomorrow morning, too. Look at this. Chief Choi said it was a report that required final payment.”

Dowook placed a file of documents in Lim So Yool’s hand, as she sat with a blank look. Lim So Yool took the file and read it for a while before raising her head and looking at him.

"I'm done securing extra funds."

"Yes. I heard. Then can you rest tomorrow?”

"We need to prepare for the audit of the Ministry of Health and Welfare before the operation meeting."

"That's something you have to do while sleeping for less than 3 hours every day, right?"

"I have to finish things that should take three months in two weeks."

Dowook covered his mouth as he yawned and said helplessly.

"I think it's going to be hard for me every day, too. I'll help you every other day."

"You don't have to do that. This isn't even an interesting calculation."

"When did we calculate something fun?"

Lim So Yool glared at Dowook. He met her gaze with a soft expression as he said.

"Helping the director's work doesn't mean I'll lose money or sacrifice time. It's rather comfortable."

"Are you comfortable?"

"If it had been the way it was, it would have been chaotic right now. Not long ago, the emergency call exemption period ended."

Dowook sent a brief silent tribute to Chief Ha, who was on duty even though he was the head of a department and pointed to the file in Lim So Yool’s hand.

"Manager Choi said that Director Lim has never forced anyone to work overtime or criticized them for not being able to work. You just handle everything by yourself."

Lim So Yool was still listening to Dowook, but she put her hands against her cheeks since they seemed to be burning.

In the midst of embarrassment with Dowook asking, "What's wrong?" worsened the burning sensation

"This may be a consideration from the boss' point of view, but it isn’t from the employee’s point of view. Using McNemar's comparison, it’s like the surgeon entered the operating room, completely finished disinfection of tools and anesthesia. If you do this, all the medical teams will be very nervous throughout the surgery, so the surgery efficiency will go down."

"That's not how McNemar goes…"

Lim So Yool said slowly while trying to point out the basic errors in his words. She realized the reason for her burning cheeks so she said.

"Doctor Park."

"Yes?"

"My heart beats as I keep listening to your voice. What kind of symptoms is this?”

"What?"

Lim So Yool said it again casually.

"My body is weird today. Since I saw your face, I haven't thought of anything, my chest hurts a little, and I have a fever, but I don't feel sick. Why?"

Dowook was greatly embarrassed as he looked at Lim So Yool.

"I don't think that's an area I can diagnose."

"Really? Even as a friend?"

"As a friend…"

Dowook thought about it seriously and answered quietly.

"If you really don't know, I think it would also be rude for me to make a theoretical definition and tell you. I think self-realization of what caused the symptoms is important."

"On your own?”

Dowook, who stood up from his seat, picked up the laptop on the desk.

"Rest more until the morning. I'll go down to the medical office. It's not because I'm uncomfortable being with you, but because I'm going out and I think it'll help with your symptoms, so don't misunderstand."

Somehow, Dowook seemed to have been shocked as he disappeared outside. Lim So Yool, who had been tilting her head for a while, picked up her cell phone.

There was only one person in Korea who could help in this gloomy situation.

The call connected, and a voice sounded from over the phone.

-What? You weren't sleeping either?

"Unni."

-Huh?

"Keep saying something."

-What? Secretary Ok texted me saying she was worried. Something about a meeting at Myeong Sae Hospital? Three standing members and two non-standing members? I know the chairman of Myeong Sae University. Should I call him? If you suddenly prepare everything, you'll be stopped by that number…….

"It's not pounding."

-What?

"My heart."

-What are you saying? What kind of calculation are you into today?

Lim So Yool recalled what had happened to Lim So-Hee. Then, all of a sudden, giggling laughter continued for a while.

– Hahahaha! I'm going crazy. Semdeok… This…….

"I'm serious. Why do you keep laughing?"

-I'm really curious what Park Dowook's expression was. Oh my god. In the midst of all this, you should be considerate and realize it on your own. He's an amazing character. It's so charming. That's why you react like that.

"What did I do?"

– So Yool, listen carefully. In general, this is roughly called a love reaction. Or it's a sign of flirting. You know what this word means.….

Click.

Lim So Yool immediately ended the call. And she turned to the seat where Dowook had sat.

A person's emotions.

A collection of special functions that were not easy to understand because there were many variables.

Until now, she’d only thought that way.

But…

Numbers and symbols. This sensation, which evaporated all other thoughts in her head at once and left only one person's face, could not be explained by any function.

Simplifying the stage of good and setting it to 100, Dad was 100. Unni was 65. She was -10.

What about Park Dowook?

Why did a number higher than 100 come to her mind?
