Pause System: Harem In The Apocalypsechapter 44.2: evolution chronos halfling: part 2

A long, long time ago, there existed a race of people known as Chronos, or more specifically, the people of time. As a result of them living in hiding and secluded from humans, not much was known about them.

Their civilisation is said to have existed for hundreds and thousands of years before humans walked on the earth.

It was said that they did not age, or more specifically, lived in a completely different time plane. In addition, all of them had one thing in common, apart from their extremely similar human biology and that was gray hair.

They outperformed humans in every physical way, and some even said they had the ability to control time.

The question is why no one has ever heard about such an amazing civilisation if it existed. There was one simple reason why. They went extinct.

No one knows when or why. They just disappeared. In Gray's memory, that was the story, at least as far as he remembered it.

His mother would read him the story every night before he went to sleep, as if it was a fairy tale. It was the same story every single night. Oddly enough, this was the only memory he had of her that he could remember.

Currently, Realm and Gray were running towards the hospital where Aurora was staying. The more he looked at Gray's back, the more he started to wonder whether it was the same person he had been staring at before.

There was a change in the aura around him. It seemed, colder... More ruthless. He had his usual gray irises, but they were different than what he usually saw, they were glowing a golden yellow.

The worst part of all of it was how indifferent he looked despite having just killed Axel. He did not bat an eyelid, in fact he was smiling. Was this really the man he had agreed to help?

'I refrained from selling him out because I genuinely thought that he could change this place for the good... Shit... Did I make the wrong decision?' Realm wondered with a nervous smile.

After completing the jump from the first building to the second, Realm winced as he let out a little whine. As a result of the injuries he received in the fight with Gray, his body was still aching. Especially his chin.

"Let's just hope i didn't..." Realm whispered.

'As long as my family comes out safe... That's all that matters...'

'I feel great... My body is overflowing with power... Why did this only happen now?' Gray questioned himself as he ran, pause stepping left to right for the fun of it.

[Explanation: DNA was previously unrecognisable. Due to the use of localised time manipulation powers, DNA gradually became evident.]

'System... You can, speak? Also, does that mean I've had chronos DNA in me before the apocalypse began? So I was never completely human?'

[Affirmative.]

Gray had more questions for the System, but he decided to put it aside. While this was an unexpected turn of events, he decided to put it aside for now. He needed to prioritise the task at hand.

If he concentrated hard enough, he could feel time moving at a slower pace. His senses were heightened. His senses of touch, smell, hearing, and even his emotions. It was such a drastic change that it was overwhelming for him.

The evolution had also increased his stats by ten.

During their leaps from building to building, he looked over at his hand. it was covered in Axel's dried blood from having crushed his heart.

'I did it... I killed him...'

Until now, there had been a part of him which had been stopping him from killing. In spite of all the threats he had issued, he still hadn't fully resolved himself to carry out the plan. Even the soldiers which had attacked him ,he mainly focused on knocking them out.

Despite that, he still managed to kill him just like that. Sure their past might have played a big part into it, but that didn't change the fact that he killed him. The worst part of the whole thing, however, was...

'Why did it feel kind of... Good?'' Gray wondered, as he approached the tower.

[Explanation: Evolution in progress. A temporary alteration of the brain's morality and psychology occurs during this period.

Explanation two: Chronos react differently to human emotions as they are a different race

Explanation three: You are on the path of edginess.]

Gray took the first two explanations seriously, not giving much of a reaction or attention to the third as he continued to run ahead.

'So I'm becoming less human...?'

[Affirmative.]

*CRASH!*

The sound of bedframes colliding against the stairway echoed throughout the hospital. As the fight had broken out, the people who had been working before were now running to the exit in a panic, leaving behind the patients in their rooms.

'Wow! She makes things float with her mind!" Freya exclaimed, her voice brimming with excitement. While they ran, Freya asked, "Miss, where are we going?".

"Flattery won't get you anywhere..." she said, holding back a smile as her lips curled up.

Because she was so used to being confused for being younger than she was, being mistaken for older was a new experience. "But it's not miss, it's violet and I'm nineteen. I'm trying to get you away from that guy."

'She's the same age as me?' Aurora realised.

"Violet, that's a pretty name!" Said Freya. "My name is Freya! Your new friend!"

Violet glanced at Freya, thinking "What an odd child." as they continued their descent.

*CRASH!*

She did it again, sending the bedframes from one of the rooms, flying at the staircase to block the path, not breaking her sprint for even a moment.

The edges of her hair and cloak rose up whenever she used her ability, exposing her short, petite and curvy body complemented by a tight black suit which she wore.

'Why help us? Weren't you the one helping that Axel guy or whatever?" Aurora asked rushing down the staircase behind her.

Violet's lips curled up nervously whilst she pinched her chin. "W-Well that was... A misunderstand... Sorry."

Violet explained that she believed Gray and Aurora were bad guys, so she thought stopping them was the right thing to do.

Turns out she had been wrong, and she wouldn't have been able to sleep peacefully knowing that it was because of her that they were being treated rather... Unfairly.

"What makes you so sure we're the good guys?" Aurora asked.

"The guy who brought you here told me. I think his name was Realm or something. He also gave me a keycard to enter.'

'That guy did?' Aurora wondered.

Although she couldn't be trusted, there was no better option available. She still hadn't fully recovered and didn't want to take her chances.

Her only option was to trust her.

"Gravity Manipulation: Zero Gravity"

Violet closed her eyes in the last second, bracing for impact.

[Pause Step]

*Wham!* *Crash!*

But there was no contact. For her at least. When she widened her eyes, she saw the young man standing in front of her. It was the same guy who she had seen at the restaurant.

Gray.
