Her head was placed on his shoulder as she hugged him tightly and snuggled into his embrace. Rio sighed and accepted the reality.
"How was your first day of class?" She asked him in a quiet voice.
"It was not bad. We had to fight a giant rat." He started telling her about his school and classes from start to end.
He didn't even hide anything about Nyla.
"I'm lucky to have a friend like Nyla. I treat her rudely yet she never complains." Rio accepted his fault in front of his lovely wife.
However, our dear Rio forgot the rule that every man should remember, 'Never praise another girl in front of your woman unless you want chaos to embrace you.'
"Are you missing her?" Lia probed him.
"Nope… but today she was different and her step-sister was mean to her." He proceeded to tell her about the incident that happened before he came here.
"Her sister sounds like a demon," Lia said as she didn't think a blood relative could be this mean to you.
She remembered something and continued, "So you haven't eaten anything since Nyla closed her door on your face?"
She spoke the second part in an amusing voice as she find it funny how this little guy was rejected by Nyla for lunch who chased him first.
"Nope." His tone was downhearted and sounded as if he was bullied.
"Wait here... I'll ask Yami to bring food for us." She said with a gentle smile and sat up to go out of the room.
A few minutes later, she came back and saw him sitting on the bed.
She also climbed back onto the bed and sat beside him.
"Did you accept me in your heart already that you even hug me easily?" He asked while placing his hand on his jaw as if thinking something.
"Is it hard for you to understand even after all that?" She asked with an annoyed voice.
"So you won't mind if I hug you to sleep like a pillow?" He asked her with a mischievous voice.
"You're asking as if you haven't done that before." She coldly glared at him.
"When?" He frowned as if he was wronged for something he didn't do.
"The night we slept together." She said but her face turned red after realizing her sentence had another meaning.
'Oh... I almost forgot.'
He remembered the day when he was feeling down and Lia took care of him. She treated him with warm affection and care. She was even rude to her father for him.
His heart was tickling with a hot feeling and realized their relationship started developing from that day onward.
Footsteps were heard and a voice came from outside the door.
"May I enter, your highness?" Yami asked in a polite tone.
"Yes, come in," Lia said.
She was pushing a cart with food like last time. She raised her eyebrows seeing the person in the room who waved at her with a bright smile.
'How did he appear here out of nowhere? But It's better. Empress' face has gained back its brightness which vanished a few days ago.'
Yami was delighted to see Rio as it brought a gentle smile to her empress's face as well.
She proceeded to place the food on a portable table like before.
Seeing two plates, Rio thought inwardly, "She skipped dinner like the second mother? Are they sisters or something that they act in the same way?"
"For how long you haven't eaten?" He asked with a questioning voice.
"Her highness often skips dinner these days," Yami replied.
Rio gazed at Lia who was looking in different directions to avoid his eyes.
Yami left the room after placing the food on the table.
Rio proceeded to serve food to both of their plates as he saw Lia was busy avoiding his gaze.
She moved her eyes at the food and a smile bloomed on her face as Rio put food on her plate.
They proceeded to eat, Lia ate more than him as always but they were both joyful in their hearts as they ate together again.
Yami came back to clean up and bring back the plates.
"When do you wanna sleep?" Lia asked him with a nonchalant voice.
"Let's sleep now." He said and lay down on the bed.
She also did the same and lay beside him. Before Rio could close his eyes, he felt a hand wrapping around his chest and a head placed on his shoulder.
A smile blossomed on their face and they slowly closed their eyes as their hearts became serene in each other's embrace.
The sleep drowned them as they both didn't sleep properly for the last few days. They both missed each other's existence beside them but didn't tell each other as they were both bad at expressing their feelings.
The great saying was true 'You understand the value of something when it is no longer with you.'
These few days' gaps helped them realize how much they wanted each other which they hid when they were together.
