He was giving them history classes free of charge. Roy thought that Damien was quite scholarly and definitely resembled the cool and the most intelligent kid in the class.
Damien said, "The first thing that Realm Lord rambled out in the kings' court was quite interesting, and I quote, "The Ashen Land is a cursed place. The law of that place is too murderous, and these laws are what killed my men." That was his first message. It's most likely that a killing formation is in place there."
"His second and third messages were related to the same thing."
"Anyone above the Weapon Master Stage is susceptible to being targeted by it if they enter the Ashen Land. It's too powerful and can curse a person to death. Even if they escape the Ashen land, they will die just like that Realm lord."
"The killing formation doesn't target Trainees and Weapon Master, but the climate of the Ashen Land is so chaotic, and its inhabitant is so deadly that they can't survive there for even an hour."
"However, in his third message, he said it was a place too good to give up. It's filled with treasures, the likes of which are barely found in the Great Forest."
"Over the years, many have tried to come up with a way to conquer it. The best one is to strengthen a Weapon Master so much that he becomes as powerful as a Realm Lord. But that's impossible. And a single grandmaster can't cause waves there as it houses many hundred to 700 years old aura monsters."
Damien finished exposing a major part of history to people who didn't have access to it. Not everyone had the privilege of knowing it. They were lucky that he was willing to share it with them.
"I see." Roy's eyes narrowed, a suspicious glint flashing in them. "That place is full of opportunities but equally dangerous."
Damien looked at them and spoke.
"Only someone as powerful as Ninam was said to be able to survive it. It's rumored that he had to sacrifice his shadow to escape its curse. He sealed Voss there, hoping that the killing formation would kill him. But it didn't attack Voss. We believe that Voss might be connected to its owner somehow. That's why it doesn't target Voss and let him stay there. Currently, we have no way to overcome it. So we can't go for Voss, and it's not like we have a way of destroying his eternal soul."
"Just leave him to me. I have already found a way to take him down. I just need some time to grow." Roy smiled at Damien, "Consider him my headache."
Damien widened his eyes at him, "You have a way?"
Roy gave him a head nod, "Yes, I do."
"How long?" Damien asked, curiosity vivid in his golden eyes.
"Before the end of next year, I can guarantee that Voss will be no more," Roy answered confidently.
"It's cold out here." Sandra interrupted them. "Let's head inside."
It was late at night and quite cold. Fog has already gathered in the garden. Barely anything was discernible by the naked eye. Roy and Damien, however, were able to see everything clearly thanks to the special properties of their body. Roy and the Female Siren walked towards the Manor hand in hand. The others followed behind him. Damien was walking quite leisurely, and he glanced at Roy's back, wondering what made him so confident about killing Voss.
However, if Voss were out of the picture, one-third of his headache would die.
'I hope he will succeed.'
So he sincerely wished that Roy would succeed in killing him.
They had just reached close to it when its gate opened up, and three people stepped out.
They were Julian, Delilah, and Amelia.
They had woken up when the fight between Arlo and Voss began, but like good kids, they chose to remain inside the manor so as not to catch the bad guy's attention and become a liability for the good guys.
"You're back, master!"
Amelia's eyes lit up when she saw Roy and ran towards him.
His clothes were in tatters, his hair messily covered his forehead, his bangs fell over his eyes, and he looked no better than a dirty street cat as he was covered in dust, but Amelia didn't hesitate before showing him a sweet smile and hugging him.
Seeing Roy being embraced by a woman with a cute face, someone's hand tightened into a fist.
Seeing them acting so close, the Female Siren's eyes twitched, and she wondered, 'Who is this woman? Why is she sticking so close to my man?'
By now, Amelia had completely disregarded the rule that a slave shouldn't touch her master. Well, technically, she was a fake mage, so she could buy back her freedom if Roy agreed. After that, she could legally marry him.
"Mm-hmm." Roy felt her softness pressing against him and patted her head, "I'm back!"
Delilah and Julian stepped closer to them and beamed at him,
"Welcome back, my lord."
"I thought I won't be seeing you for a few more days, my friend!"
Roy suddenly hugged them like a bear. They were taken aback by his action.
"I missed you guys!"
They blinked their eyes at him in bewilderment. It has only been a day since they last met. Why was he acting like he hadn't seen them for years?
Well, in just a day, Roy had experienced too much. He had to fight one enemy after another in that hellhole just to survive, and then he was almost killed by Voss. To be honest, the danger he faced in the ancestral land was too much, and so were the uncertainties. Not to mention, he had lost his knight. That helped him realize that he should start living for the moments and be more open with them, lest he regrets not having any memorable moments with them.
