Origin Art—Frog Leap!
Compass Carburettor noticed a good fraction of his Origin Essence getting expended as his figure leapt, reaching as high as two metres. Once he landed, he panted a little, frowning as he muttered, "The effect is pretty weak."
When compared to the power of the mongoose he obtained in the Apocalypse World that allowed him to leap five metres within a second, the Origin Art of Frog Leap was pretty insignificant.
All it allowed him was to jump higher and faster. It wasn't like the mongoose's ability that covered the travel distance in a second.
As he was only at the First Layer of the Origin Refinement Stage, the effect of this Origin Art was pretty weak. It'll slowly grow in strength as his cultivation improves though.
"I used a quarter of my Origin Essence for that single jump." He muttered, sighing, "Indeed, this power system is closer to wuxia than xianxia."
The Origin Art of Frog Leap was something he had obtained from the ruins. As it was just a Human Grade Origin Art, it wasn't anything special, as the ruins seemed to originate from a dominant power of the past.
There were two Origin Arts related to a Frog Martial Spirit in his collection.
Compass Carburettor raised his hand, facing his palm towards a vase as his Origin Essence suddenly resembled a rope that shot out of his palm and latched onto the vase. And within a second, it contracted, causing the vase to end up in his hold.
Origin Art—Snag!
It was a pretty useful ability to snatch things as he had a good range of around four metres. And as his cultivation improved, this range would also increase. And best of all, the duration of the Origin Essence rope moving out of his palm and returning happened within the blink of an eye, just like a frog tongue.
So, it was pretty effective.
At present, he was only able to snag tiny objects. But once his cultivation increases, he could use it to carry his weight. That way, he could scale up buildings in an instant or use it to evade attacks, as long as there was something for the Origin Essence rope to latch onto.
The origin essence rope was sticky just like a frog's tongue as Compass Carburettor experimented with its uses until he was satisfied.
Currently, he learnt these two Origin Arts. When he was thinking of the means to create his own Origin Arts, he arrived at a certain thought, "Creating something from scratch is impossible. So, I can use existing effects to derive what I want from them."
That was how modern research was conducted, as there were countless things whose data can be referenced upon to derive new findings.
With that, he first learnt the two Origin Arts suitable for a Frog Martial Spirit. This way, he'll be able to understand everything with first-hand experience.
Compass Carburettor created a projection of his Mind Frog, noticing that its legs seemed stronger than before. And the same was true for its tongue too. There wasn't any other difference in its form.
This was what Origin Arts truly did. They amplified the abilities of the Martial Spirit, storing Origin Essence in them that the cultivator could use to instantly unleash the respective effect.
Compass Carburettor focused a little, using Snag as he pointed at the table, unleashing the Origin Essence rope once again. But this time, instead of latching onto the target, the tip of the rope pierced through it before returning.
The hole wasn't too deep, but it displayed the penetrative power he would exhibit. "This will prove useful."
"But, these are just basic abilities. They won't exercise the true power of the Mind Frog." Compass Carburettor muttered, taking out a large paper as he began to jot down all the details that he had found out, including some records of cultivators that had attempted to create their own Origin Arts.
He gathered everything he could get, roaming through the market in Ohka City as he bought useful materials, piling them up in his home.
Until he completed his research, he didn't plan on recklessly trying to create an Origin Art. Of course, Grisha too needed to do the same to better harness the power of her Space Ape. So, she too helped him in his research.
When he felt a headache after researching for long durations, Compass Carburettor practiced the two Origin Arts that he had learnt, gaining valuable experience. This would help him in fights.
He didn't do anything beyond the two tasks, occasionally conversing with Ranze and Mella, giving them advice on any matters they were worried about while inquiring about details regarding his foes.
Unfortunately, there wasn't any news regarding that. But, when a certain scroll reached the Opposition Clan, Compass Carburettor smiled in relief that his plan was working well. "They'll hunt you down on their own. And while you're dealing with them, I'll have more time to research and grow stronger."
Days passed in such a fashion before soon, it had been two months since he had arrived at the Opposition Clan.
"You could stay here for as long as you need, you know. My Clan is quite indebted to you." Mella said, expressing her worry.
"It's fine, aunty." Compass Carburettor smiled, "I've imposed on you for long enough. I'll be staying just a street away from here, so I'll be visiting from time to time."
"Do you need me to send a few servants to help with your daily needs?" Mella asked.
"Thank you in advance." Compass Carburettor cupped his fists before taking his leave, carrying a large bag of books that he had bought. Since he was planning to research further, he felt it was risky leaving so many details in the guest house of the Opposition Clan.
There was a good chance someone from the Clan might chance upon it one of these days. So, he bought a house where he could be freer and conduct research without worries.
It wasn't an issue with the money he had, not to mention the fact that he needed a wider space to train his abilities. There wasn't enough in the guest house and there were too many prying eyes.
Carrying their luggage, Compass Carburettor and Grisha walked for a short couple of minutes from the Opposition Clan and arrived before the house that they had bought, "Guess we'll be staying here from now onwards."
