Chapter 403: Rebirth Star
Charles then again closed his elemental eyes, checked the reconstruction process, and soon turned solemn.
'The red tear… No, it's the rebirth flame. Hmm, the rebirth flame is reconnecting the broken soul shards while the luck power is boosting the success rate when a soul shard fuses with another. What an incredible power to create a miracle.' Charles knew that there would be a high chance of failure during the fusion without this 'Luck' power boost!
Although 30% of his soul shards would fuse on their own without the need of 'Luck' power, Charles knew that the final result wouldn't be a good thing for him.
'There is a high chance that the resurrection of my soul would end up as a failure without this luck power. Even if my soul got resurrected, I might face some big side effects.' He wouldn't be surprised if he permanently lost his power to cast spells or got stuck in the same Rank for the rest of his life…
'Thankfully, I anticipated such an outcome and prepared earlier. Moreover, the Holem's Crown used 8 million people's luck power to cast this Miracle.' In truth, he was waiting for the final result of this resurrection!
'If this process continues without any interruption, my shattered soul would reform into a new one in 3 to 4 years.' But Charles had another thing to worry about, though.
'Even if I manage to get a healed soul, how am I supposed to live without my body? Won't I be stuck in this Astral Realm?' While thinking about the problem, he suddenly recalled something and soon froze.
'When that flame burned my body, I didn't feel any pain at all. No, I have a vague feeling that my physical body is somehow fused with my elemental body!' Unfortunately, he was not in a safe place to do experiments.
'It's better to experiment once I move to a safe place.' He nodded inwardly and soon shifted his attention towards his Inner World.
After glancing around for a while, he flew towards the sky and soon arrived before the Rebirth spell model.
Instead of the fire heart, he saw a bird's imprint in the form of fire streaks within the spell model!
'Remnant Will of the Fire Bird?' He cautiously moved closer towards the spell model and tried to touch it.
But the next instant, the bird's imprint darted like a living bird and sent a streak of fire towards Charles!
A moment later, he noticed that many memories entered his consciousness in the form of images.
'What is this?!' He instantly gathered his remaining wisdom power and got ready for a mind attack.
To his surprise, nothing happened.
'There is no Fire Bird's Will in it?' He checked his consciousness and found no abnormalities inside.
After that, he shifted his attention towards the bird's imprint and soon realized that it had returned to its original position.
Meanwhile, Charles linked his mind with the spell model and probed the imprint.
Soon, he sensed a weak Will residing in the form of fire streaks and frowned.
'It seems I need to keep this thing for a while.' Although he could erase this weakened Will, he decided to let it live for a while. He felt no hostility from it.
'Moreover, this Fire Bird's Will also seemed to have one last job. It wants to fuse with the Rebirth Star, huh.' A chuckle escaped out of his mouth.
Then, he moved away from the Rebirth spell model and shifted his attention towards the new memories.
'Hmm? Was the Fire Bird born from this Red Star? It seems so. Then, it's about the Red Star. No, it's neither a Red Sun nor a Rebirth Star. That star is a Rank-9 living creature's outer shell!' He froze for a moment and soon squinted his illusionary eyes.
'Wait! Phoenix? The Rank-9 living creature is the mythical bird Phoenix? Moreover, is it sleeping inside the Rebirth Star? Wait, how come this bird's name appeared in Earth Mythology?' He was deeply startled inside.
He then thought for a moment and soon shook his head.
'The Fire Bird seemed to be born from one of the Phoenix's feathers and then went on its own. As for how it managed to become a Divine Beast of the Fire Elemental Plane? There is no memory about it. The reason the Fire Bird kept its heart, aka its Will, was to pass down its inheritance to a Red Human.' In truth, this inheritance thing was nothing more than a series of coordinate numbers to the Rebirth Star.
As Charles read those memories, he also learned some information about the Rebirth Flame.
'Rebirth Flame- Rebirth Flame is the flame of resurrection and rebirth. As the legends say, once you understand the essence of a rebirth flame, you can rise from the flame even if your main body got destroyed. But the resurrection of the shattered soul isn't a simple matter. That's why the rebirth flame needs more than four years to heal my soul completely. Moreover, there is also a high chance of failure during this process…' His expression turned grim.
'I was right!' He sighed heavily and shifted his attention towards the Rebirth Spell model.
'Except for the bird's imprint inside the spell model, nothing abnormal happened to it.' He breathed out a sigh of relief and soon flew towards the next spell model.
It was the [False Fire] spell model. But as he arrived near it, he couldn't help but show a bitter smile on his face.
Unlike the Rebirth spell model, the [False Fire] spell model was damaged in many areas. Although it wasn't hard for him to reconstruct it, it would still take some time. Charles also moved towards the other spell models one by one and soon turned pale.
Among the seven spell models, three of them appeared heavily damaged due to the heart explosion.
'It seems I've to start the spell model reconstruction process.' He heaved another deep sigh, shifted his attention towards the [Chaos Fire] spell model, and started reconstructing the broken area.
…
The Last Island, Azure Federation Territory, Endless Sea, Edhen World.
At that moment, a lean man in his late twenties stood at the Town gate entrance and stared at the beach direction in confusion. He had blonde hair, a Nubian nose, a square face, and looked around 180 cm tall.
He was none other than Elias, Valerie's crew member.
Meanwhile, a black-haired woman in her late twenties ran in his direction with an anxious look on her face. A strange man also followed behind her, but Elias paid no attention to him.
Instead, he sized Destiny Lady up and down and asked.
"Why are you here, Miss Natalie? Where is Charles?"
There was a trace of anticipation that appeared in his tone.
Upon hearing those words, Destiny Lady lowered her head to hide away her guilt and spoke.
"I'm also searching for him, Mr. Elias." She paused for a moment and then added.
"He ran away after he saw us."
"Ran away? Why-?" Before he could ask the question, everyone sensed an intense fire elemental energy from the sky and looked up in unison.
At that moment, a female figure flew from the Hill of Sorrow using her crimson wings and soon landed 100 meters away from them.
The female figure had a deep scar on her left eye, and her red hair moved in the air like waves.
She was none other than Valerie.
She waved her hand, dismissed her wing spell, and ordered in a solemn tone.
"Elias, we are leaving." She paused for a moment, turned her attention towards Destiny Lady, and then added.
"If you are looking for Charles, it's no use. He has long gone."
Although her tone appeared normal, Destiny Lady felt cold and distant.
"H-He left?! Where? Why?" A shock appeared on Destiny Lady's face.
Meanwhile, Valerie heaved a deep sigh and spoke.
"He has reasons to leave, Natalie. As for where he went…" She paused for a moment and soon recalled a quote.
'Sometimes, it's better just to remain silent and let his death bury with me.' It wasn't because she was cold-hearted, but it was to give Natalie a new joyous life.
Although what she did was wrong, both of them were at fault here. Even after knowing that Destiny Lady had a lover, Charles chose to love her. From her perspective, the thing that killed him was not the Destiny Lady's rejection but his foolishness and naivety.
'Charles is no more, but this girl has a new life. If I tell her about Charles's demise, I don't think she would live happily ever after at all.' She thought.
After a long silence, Valerie arrived in front of Destiny Lady, stared deep into her eyes, and spoke with a smile.
"Humans are indeed strange beings, aren't they? They spent decades looking for a precious gem, but once they got that gem, they would toss it somewhere and start searching for a new gem. Natalie, are you going to follow the same thing? Let me ask you a question: Are you going to cherish the precious gem you obtained through decades of searching? Or, are you going after the new gem? What is your answer?"
As Destiny Lady heard those words, she suddenly felt like countless needles were stabbing her heart.
She soon showed a hesitant look, turned her gaze towards Joel, and grabbed his arms.
"I want to be with him." She said.
Valerie's smile widened as she nodded her head and spoke.
"Then, forget about Charles and spend your time with this precious gem."
Saying so, she turned around and started walking towards the Town entrance.
But just as she took a few steps, she recalled something, halted her footsteps, and then added.
"If you guys want to tag along, go and purchase the necessary things for the journey. We will depart at dusk."
Saying so, she waved her hand and continued to walk.
In the meantime, Elias showed a dumbfounded look on his face and soon came to a realization.
"So, he is your lover, huh." A trace of sorrow appeared in his tone.
Before Destiny Lady could give an affirmative nod, he turned around and followed after his Captain.
Soon, he arrived beside her and asked.
"Where did Charles go, Captain? Don't tell me you gave him the idea to run away?"
A forced smile appeared on Valerie's face.
"He has gone very far, Elias. It will be a miracle if we see him again in this lifetime." She said in a sorrowful tone.
"Oh? Did he use any teleportation scroll to escape? That coward!" Elias cursed.
"Don't curse him, idiot. Let's go." Valerie slapped him on his shoulder and then fastened her footsteps.
In the meantime, Destiny Lady stood there dazed and soon leaned on Joel's shoulder.
Meanwhile, Joel patted her head and said in a solemn tone.
"Let's go. It's better to stick with this group for a while."
Soon, both of them took a step forward and walked into the town.
